HELP Literacy is an engaging, comprehensive, K-3 literacy curriculum based on the science of reading. HELP combines explicit systematic reading and writing instruction with engaging award winning texts, literacy games, environmental supports, SIMPLE Assessments, and Literacy Leader Training to ensure every child is a successful and enthusiastic reader and writer. The HELP Literacy Curriculum is where the Art of Teaching meets the Science of Literacy.
HELP Literacy focuses on engaging learners because how you teach matters as much as what you teach. Young literacy learners need to be actively engaged in reading and writing experiences to benefit from instruction. HELP takes a student-centered approach to literacy instruction where each lesson and text is designed to captivate and motivate learners. Teachers deliver carefully sequenced literacy lessons that emphasize the connections between reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking,
HELP provides teachers systematic easy-to-use step-by step lesson guides to teach the foundations of literacy. Each HELP Lesson Guide features instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, spelling/writing, and reading comprehension. HELP Lessons include embedded SEL oral language experiences at the beginning and end of each lesson.
HELP includes collections of high interest stories and informational texts that feature phonics patterns found in the HELP lessons. HELP shows teachers how to use these texts to provide explicit and systematic phonics instruction including decoding practice.
The HELP SIMPLE Assessment is a diagnostic assessment tool used to monitor student literacy progress. SIMPLE quickly yields easy to use information on student needs and growth in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. SIMPLE Assessment data is used to guide instructional decisions at the class or individual student level.
The flexible modular structure of HELP Literacy allows for it to be used as your core literacy instructional program, for targeted small group literacy interventions, or as an intensive intervention. Likewise, the HELP Components can be used as a supplemental curriculum by focus area such as phonics or spelling.
HELP features evidence-based English Learner practices and adaptations such as emphasis developing phonemic awareness, frequent practice with analyzing words, and daily opportunities to read both narrative and informational connected text.
HELP features instructional techniques proven to be effective with students diagnosed with dyslexia such as structured literacy instruction, multisensory instruction, and explicit instruction in vocabulary.
